Says coir, cashew sectors are in crisis
Communist Party of India (CPI) State unit secretary Kanam Rajendran has urged the government to initiate measures to protect traditional industries. A majority of such industries were steeped in crisis. He was inaugurating the birth centenary celebrations of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) leader C.K. Kesavan here on Friday. Most of the coir societies were in debt. The cashew nut factory workers’ strike was prolonging while factory owners were defying government directions. The toddy segment required restructuring.
Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had derived strength from workers in the traditional sector and the government was bound to protect them, he said.
