Abidjan (Ivory Coast) - The Ivorian economic capital, Abidjan, will host from 18 to 21 April 2017, three meetings of the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on industrial development cocoa and cashew, APA learned Saturday from official sources. According to a memorandum of the Commission, sent to APA, this is the meeting of the Committee of Experts of the ministers of Industry for the examination of texts on 'quality infrastructure '' to be submitted to ministers for approval at their meeting scheduled for April 21. Justifying the context of the three meetings, the Commission recalls that the very small industrial base of the ECOWAS countries has very little to the formation of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) with an average of 6% to 7% contribution of the manufacturing industry .
'' Despite the efforts of several ECOWAS Member States over the years, the level of industrial development of the regional economy has not changed significantly, '' laments the Commission, hence the adoption 2010, a '' Industrial Policy in West Africa Common (WACIP) and the implementation strategy was revised in April 2015 by the Ministers of ECOWAS in charge of quality, '' underlines the Circular.
According to the Commission, the food industry has been identified as one of four sectoral priorities for the development of the regional industry.
To this end, certain key products such as cocoa, cashew, oil palm, mango, etc. must be given special attention.
The general objective of the meeting of industry ministers and agriculture aims, according to the Circular, to '' validate both resolutions to accelerate the industrial development of cashew and cocoa in West Africa ''.
'' The ECOWAS Commission will take this opportunity to present some projects cashew and cocoa. This meeting will be an opportunity to present the contribution of the quality infrastructure to promote agricultural value chains and especially for cashew and cocoa.
