Two-day training cum exposure visit on “Advances in production and processing of cashewnut” was conducted for progressive cashew farmers of Nagaland and Meghalaya by Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), DAC&FW, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Medziphema on March 24-25 at Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
During the technical session professor, horticulture, O.U.A.T, Bhubaneswar, Dr. P.C. Lenka emphasized on the topic of agro ecological recommended varieties in cashew.
The importance of quality planting material and variety on cashew was delivered by horticulturist, AICRP on Cashew, O.U.A.T, Bhubaneswar, Kabita Sethy and horticulturist, AICRP on Cashew, O.U.A.T, Bhubaneswar, Dr. P.K. Panda deliberated on the topic of establishment and maintenance of cashew plantation.
Associate Professor& Head, AICRP on Cashew, O.U.A.T, Bhubaneswar, Dr. S. Mukharjee gave lecture on the topic of pest and disease management on cashew. Interactive session between farmers and resource persons were also held. Vote of thanks was proposed by general manager, Technical, OSCDC Ltd, A.K. Lenka.
Certificates were distributed to all the participants along with reading materials. The participants expressed their gratitude to the director, CIH for conducting such practical oriented training programme and also requested to help them provide planting materials so that interest can be created among the farmers. Altogether 20 cashew growers attended the programme accompanied by one CIH official, FA EliyamoHumtsoe.
The programme was coordinated by in-charge training, CIH, Medziphema, ShisarenlaAier.
The programme was organized to equip the farmers with the advanced production technology and of processing of Cashewnut for better income generation.
