PANAJI: In an attempt to streamline the trade of cashew liquor, the excise department has entrusted Goa University with drafting a feni policy, which it wants to introduce at the earliest.
The Goa University's department of management studies will study problems associated with feni trade, compile a database of all stakeholders, offer suggestions to upgrade the product and draft a feni policy.
Excise commissioner Menino D'Souza said that, presently, one of their main aims is to plug revenue leakages. The financial losses become visible when cashew zones are auctioned by the government every season.
Most traders bypass the auction and choose to bid when the department throws open untaken zones for tendering. The practice allows traders to quote less than the actual worth of the zone. This is the trend almost every cashew season. Source: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/gu-entrusted-with-drafting-feni-policy/articleshow/58200213.cms
