VINACAS President Nguyen Duc Thanh would like to thank and reported to INC/ GCC on review of cashew business production results in the 1st half of 2017 and estimated figures for the 2nd half of 2017 and VINACAS’ plan for 2018. According to VINACAS’ report, in 2016, in spite of so many socio-economic difficulties, Vietnam-based cashew processing units successfully processed and exported a significant volume of 350,000 metric tons of cashew kernels with export turnover of over USD 3.0 billions for all cashew products, including approximately USD 2.85 billions in export of cashew kernels. This is the 11th consecutive year that Vietnam cashew industry has maintained its world leading position in cashew kernel exports, continuing to account for over 50% of total global cashew trade value (of around USD 5.5 billions as estimated).
In the spirit of cooperation and mutual benefits, for the development of the cashew industry in particular and the nut and dried fruit industries of the world in general, VINACAS and INC / GCC exchanged their views and mutually agreed on some important issues as follows:
1. In view of position and importance of VINACAS in Vietnam cashew industry, VINACAS is a member of the Board of the Global Cashew Council (GCC), which is coordinated by the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC), the international umbrella organization that representes the global nut and dried fruit industry. Founded in 2011, GCC supports the growth and sustainability of the global cashew industry by increasing awareness of the health and nutritional benefits of cashews; promoting usage and consumption; promoting food safety and quality standards; and supporting health research.
At the 9th VINACAS Golden Cashew Rendezvous 2017 in November in Phu Quoc, INC/ GCC will attend the event as the position of supporters.
2. Determining the unique role and importance of INC/ GCC as an umbrella for the world cashew industry, VINACAS commit to be an active founding member in every key activities of GCC. VINACAS kindly requests GCC to consolidate its professional organization and operation towards GCC’s missions and goals. GCC should always create new platforms and initiatives to attract new cashew representing bodies all over the world to join and all cashew stakeholders. VINACAS is responsible to mobilize its members to contribute funds for the meaningful activities of the global cashew industry. VINACAS proposes Vietnam as a candidate country to host the annual INC World Nut and Dried Fruit Congress, because Vietnam is today not only the world largest cashew kernel processing and exporting center, but also a very potential market for other nuts and dried fruits including macadamia, peanuts, pine nuts, chestnuts, lotus nuts, raisins, prunes, jackfruit etc.
According to VINACAS’ export plan, in the context of many continuous difficulties in 2017, the whole cashew industry of Vietnam will strive their best to reach the following targets: Exported cashew kernel volume of 360 thousand metric tons of all grades, which will be 2.8% higher in volume over the same period of 2016. Export turnover of all cashew products will reach USD 3.3 billions, including USD 3.0 billions earnt from export of cashew kernels that will be 5.0% higher than the same period in 2016. If the final results are achieved as expected, this year will be the 12th consecutive year that Vietnam cashew industry will remain the ranking number one in the world’s cashew kernel export.
